day 3

Our last day of holiday!  Starting to get used to that because none of the Brits say vacation.  We started the day with a great breakfast and coffee at the hotel before heading out for our final day of adventuring.  Although it was still rainy, we embraced it and took off.

We decided the best way to see as much as possible would be to take advantage of the “hop on hop off” bus.  The bus came with an audio tour as well so we learned a lot just along the rides to the various stops.  Our first priority was to get to Schönbrunn Palace so that was the first stop of the day.  It was absolutely incredible!  It reminded me a lot of Versailles, but this time I got to actually go inside!  Every room was crazy beautiful and decorated to the nines.  Each one had at least one chandelier, which I illegally snuck pictures of because how could I not?  We also walked around the grounds a bit but it was pretty windy and rainy so we stuck to more indoor activities.

After lunch and walking around the canal a bit, we wanted to get to the Giant Ferris Wheel.  Unfortunately we didn’t get to ride it but we ended up hanging on the bus for a while and passed it along with the UN Headquarters, Danube River, and a lot of other modern parts of the city.  It was nice to take a walking break and listen to the audio tour as we went.  By the end of the ride, the sun managed to come through and we saw the most beautiful sunset.  It was a perfect and beautiful ending to the tour and almost our trip.

That night we went to the “Ave Maria”, a classical music performance at St. Charle’s Church.  Although the ceiling was under construction it was so beautiful inside and the acoustics were great.  There were a few musicians and one classical- opera-ish singing lady.  The music was incredible and lulled me to sleep for a bit in the best way possible.  After the concert, we headed back to the hotel, exhausted but not ready to leave.

I would come back to Vienna in a heartbeat, it was the perfect combination of old and new, young and old, busy but not overwhelming.  The food and sights were beautiful, and the company was the best.  This past week is one I will truly cherish; I feel so lucky to have seen so many beautiful things with and aunt and uncle that were beyond generous to share this experience with me.
